Land of Ice and Snow
Antarctica is the fifth largest continent, containing 5,405,000 square miles of territory. It also contains the world’s largest desert, at 14,000,000 square kilometers in area. We have been as close to Antarctica as the capital of Tierra del Fuego, Ushuiah, Argentina, the world’s southernmost city, and Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn), the southernmost point of South America, approximately 500 miles. Close, but no cigar!
